Yamba Road / Palmers Channel Southbank Rad Intersection upgrade
The Yamba Road and South Bank Road intersection upgrade is a major road reconstruction and flood resilience project designed to improve safety, traffic efficiency, and flood immunity along the key corridor between Maclean and Yamba. The project includes widening and raising the roadway, intersection upgrades, utility relocations, and active transport improvements.
In addition to flood mitigation, the upgrade improves safety through the construction of a channelised intersection, wider road shoulders, and enhanced line marking and signage for better visibility and guidance.
Project works consists of:
- Reconstruction of approximately 900 metres of roadway
- Raising the road by approximately one metre for improved flood immunity
- Widening the road formation from eight metres to 12 metres Widening of the road corridor
- Construction of widened road shoulders for cyclist accommodation
- Upgrade of the South Bank Road intersection
- Addition of a dedicated right-turn lane
- Relocation of communications and electrical infrastructure
- Replacement and relocation of ageing water main infrastructure
- Future construction of cantilever cycle bridges adjacent to Palmers Channel bridge
Project Scope
- Detailed civil and road design
- Flood resilience and drainage design
- Intersection design
